Jay joined Lloyds PR Solicitors in 2011.

Jay is a practising barrister at Lloyds PR Solicitors who is additionally allowed to undertake litigation. He is also a police station representative and a qualified duty solicitor who leads our Hertfordshire office. 

In his capacity as an accredited police station representative, Jay has represented clients at the police station for all offences, ranging from driving offences to allegations of rape and murder.

Jay’s main role at Lloyds PR Solicitors however, is as a barrister, representing clients in both the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. As an advocate, Jay has represented defendants in a whole range of cases at Court, including offences of murder, conspiracies, money laundering, and offences of a violent or sexual nature. He has also assisted some of the country’s top criminal defence Kings Counsel in preparing and presenting murder trials.

Jay has a breadth of experience in dealing with serious and complex criminal cases from the very beginning in the police station up to and including as the advocate at Crown Court trial.

As an advocate and litigator, Jay understands the importance of mobile phone evidence, forensic evidence, analysing accounts and other areas of expertise. He is used to working alongside experts from all fields, including Kings Counsel, road collision experts, phone and phone data/ download experts and scientists from all fields.

Practice Areas

White Collar & Financial Crime

R v TA & Others, Kingston Crown Court

Jay acted as sole counsel in this case involving international money laundering of over £170,000. The monies were said to be the proceeds of fraudulent activity, and the defendant is alleged to have used a number of bank accounts to try and clean the money, including the account for a charity which he was the chairman of. A lot of the money was ultimately transferred to a number of accounts in Ghana.

 

Operation Rissole, St Albans Crown Court

Conspiracy to defraud. Eight defendants accused of being involved in courier fraud. 20 victims with a loss of £115,956.06.

 

Operation Pappus, St Albans Crown Court 

Specialist Fraud Division. £813,085.69 Pension Scheme Fraud with 21 victims. Three defendants.

 

Operation Klister, St Albans Crown Court

The defendant was charged with 17 others with conspiracy to commit fraud and conspiracy to drive dangerously over a two year period. This was a “crash for cash” case where there were induced/staged accidents to allow insurance claims to be made. This fraud is valued at over £1 million.

 

Operation Spoonbill, Teeside Crown Court

Five defendants accused of importing and distributing multiple kilograms of Class A Drugs in the UK, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds as well as laundering the proceeds of crime.

The media described the size of this case as follows:

“The sophisticated enterprise saw vast quantities of class A drugs - mainly high purity cocaine - imported into the UK via chartered helicopter flights from continental Europe, including Belgium. The flights would deviate from submitted flight plans and drop off radar in order to make drugs drops near the south coast.

One one occasion 103kg of drugs, 60kg of heroin and 43 kg of cocaine, were recovered from a BMW in Kent. The drugs had a street value of more than £10m and 35 encrypted headsets, often used by drug dealers, were also discovered. Six flights, which contained a combined total of just under 500kgs of cocaine with an estimated wholesale value of £17.25m, were linked”

R v SA, Luton Crown Court

The defendant was accused of tax evasion in excess of £600,000.

 

R v AM & Others, Truro Crown Court

Jay was a led junior advocate in a multi handed fraud case involving £200,000. This was a paperwork heavy case where the allegations spanned a number of years. 


Homicide

Operation Haversack, Nottingham Crown Court

Pre-meditated murder of a young man by a rival organised crime group, alleged to be an argument over drug dealing.

 

Operation Pochade, St Albans Crown Court

Six handed murder. The crown said it was a premediated robbery which resulted in murder. Significant amount of telephone evidence and forensics.

 

R v ** (a youth), Croydon Crown Court

Attempted Murder. Accused of stabbing the victim several times with the intention of killing him.

 

R v EA, Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey)

The defendant was accused of murder in the Willesden area of North London. Jay was instructed as junior counsel in this case, led by Queens Counsel at the Old Bailey. The defendant was acquitted after trial.

R v JU, St Albans Crown Court 

Jay was instructed as junior counsel in this case, which was a contested matter of Familial Homicide and Perverting the Course of Justice where a young female had died at her family home. Jay was led by Queens Counsel in this case before a High Court Judge, which ran for 10 weeks, with seven defendants facing charges including Murder and Familial Homicide. 

R v AS, Reading Crown Court

The defendant was accused of killing a young lady who was the member of his religious group, and hiding her body in woodland in Stevenage.

 

R v AT, St Albans Crown Court

The defendant was accused of killing her ex- husband with her new lover, in a conspiracy involving arguments over finances.


Firearms

R v NO & Others, Harrow Crown Court 

The defendant is accused of being a gang member who, along with others, shot one of two shotguns into a kebab house where a rival gang member was said to be. Several firearms offences are charged.


Serious Violence

R v FH, Snaresbrook Crown Court

Case involving serious assault, kidnapping and ransom demands.

 

R v AC, Worcester Crown Court

The Defendant was accused of throwing a corrosive substance at a three year old boy with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

 

R v ** (a youth), Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey)

Jay was instructed as junior counsel in this case where the defendant, aged 15 at the time, was alleged to have conspired to commit GBH with intent, which resulted in the death of one boy and the serious injury by way of stabbing, to another boy. This case involved large amounts of CCTV and phone evidence. The trial lasted for around two months before the defendant was acquitted.


Human Trafficking, Slavery, Prostitution & Facilitation

Operation Supermarine, Swindon Crown Court

Eight handed conspiracy to engage in human trafficking and prostitution. Thousands of pages of evidence have been served.

 

R v FH, Southwark Crown Court

Jay was a led junior advocate in this case involving allegations of false imprisonment, people trafficking and money laundering.


Theft, Burglary & Robbery

Operation Gwendreath, Southwark Crown Court

National police operation investigating a gang who use sophisticated means to steal high value cars before taking them to dismantling sites. In this case it was estimated over £300,000 worth of vehicles had been dismantled at the site in question.

This was a different trial to the above which was the result of the same operation. National police operation investigating a gang who use sophisticated means to steal high value cars before taking them to dismantling sites. The defendant was acquitted after trial.

R v SP, Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey)

Case involving ten robberies at banks and post offices in South London over a period of months. The last robbery involved the use of a firearm. Jay was instructed as junior counsel in this case at the Old Bailey, which involved complicated cell site and phone evidence.


Drugs

R v DB, Isleworth Crown Court

The defendant was a senior civil servant working in the Home Office. It is alleged that he procured Mifepristone, a drug which is typically prescribed by doctors to bring about an abortion, before lacing his mistresses drink with the drug in order to unlawfully cause a miscarriage.
