Jo Schaefer joined Lloyd’s PR Solicitors in January 2019.  She works as a Solicitor in the Magistrates’ Court department.  

Jo has extensive experience litigating serious criminal offences.  Her work has spanned the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court and the Appellant Courts and has included serious sexual, violent and drug-related offences.

Preparing Acts for Terrorism conviction being reviewed by CCRC 

  • R v P 2018 (Poole Magistrates’ Court)

Anti Slavery Trafficking Risk Order application, successfully had 16 count Slavery prosecution discontinued in October 2017 after having multiple psychiatric and psychological reports prepared and it being determined that client unfit for trial, police applied 8 months later for STRO, after further reports prepared and representations made, Police forced to abandon their application.

  • R v A 2018 (Liverpool Crown Court) - Op Starlight,

Conspiracy to Supply Class A spanning Middleborough to Brighton, 25 defendants, client acquitted 

  • R v T 2018 (Maidstone Crown Court)  

S18 GBH, Defendant caused injury with large machete, successfully negotiated a s20 GBH after initial strong refusal from Crown, 28 month sentence due to strength of mitigation bundle and background put forward 

  • R v VG 2018 (Canterbury Crown Court) 

Importation of 50 kilograms cocaine, widely reported in UK and Dutch media 

  • R v S 2018 (Preston Crown Court)

Money Laundering, case discontinued mid trial due to strength of defence forensic accountant report  

  • R v R 2017 (Northampton Crown Court) 

PWITS Class A, Crown discontinued case on the day of trial due to strength of defence preparation and expert reports 

  • R v R 2016 (Court of Appeal)

Possession of Explosives, defendant had previous terrorism conviction, case successfully dismissed by Judge on abuse of process grounds which the Crown appealed, Court of Appeal upheld the dismissal 

  • R v O 2016 (Bristol Crown Court) 

Rape, 48 count indictment, 7 defendants, widely reported in national media, client acquitted

  • R v B 2016 (Southwark Crown Court) 

£1m international VAT fraud, only defendant to be acquitted

  • R v E 2016 (Southward Crown Court) 

Conspiracy to Supply Class A, only defendant to be acquitted after calling a number of defence witnesses and instructing cell site experts
